Department of Business Administration

The Department of Business Administration is one of the three Departments that make up the College of Management Sciences. The Department of Business Administration started undergraduate programme during the 2012/2013 academic session. Therefore, the Department offers B. Sc. (Hons) Business Administration programme.

“To create an enabling qualitative learning environment for individuals to develop their full potentials through a wide range of educational activities for efficient service to Benue State, Nigeria, and humanity, generally.”

 

Philosophy of the Department

The department believes in developing the mind and imparting both theoretical and practical knowledge that encourages self-reliance in the individual. The department also seeks to assist the individual to imbibe the culture of excellence, creativity, productivity and if need be, change his environment.

 

Objectives of the Department

In line with the above philosophy, the Department has the following objectives:

  1. To provide basic knowledge necessary for an understanding and analysis of the problems related to the management of industrial, commercial, public and other human organization;
  2. To inculcate in the students of management the skills required for identifying and defining problems and taking appropriate decisions, using the most appropriate scientific techniques and tools;
  3. To inculcate in the students an awareness of and sensitivity to environmental factors and realities and their impact on management practice and decision; and
  4. To develop leadership and inter personal relations skills needed for understanding and managing organizational and group dynamics.
  5. To produce graduates who are socially responsible, knowledgeable and highly skilled in Business management.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Applicants

Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  1. The Senior Secondary School or the School Certificate/General Certificate of Education (SSCE/GCE) ordinary level credit passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics;
  2. Grade II Teacher’s Certificate with Credit/merit passes in at least five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics;
  3. An acceptable score in the UTME as may be determined by the University from time to time; and
  4. JAMB combination MUST include Mathematics, Economics, and Accounting or Commerce

 

Direct Entry Applicants

Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Five credit passes in GCE (or Equivalent) examination at not more than two sittings with at least two passes at the Advanced (‘A’) level GCE;
  2. Four credit passes at advanced level or its Equivalent;

NOTE: In any case of (a) and (b) above, no subject is counted at both levels of the examination; and

  1. An acceptable credit passes in UAM Diploma in the relevant field as may be determined by UAM from time to time plus GCE or O’ Level or equivalent in English and Mathematics

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have registered and passed all required examination including project before being qualified for graduation from the programmes. To qualify for the award of Bachelors Degree, a candidate shall satisfy the following:

  1. Must have been duly admitted and registered for the programme;
  2. Must have passed all prescribed examinations;
  3. Must have accumulated minimum of 161 earned credit units for the four-year programme; and
  4. Must have accumulated minimum of 137 earned credit units for the three-year programme.
